The shape is a sneaker, the climate is mild in winter and tropical in the summer, the beaches are wide
& white, sailing is supreme along both the Atlantic and the Inter-Coastal Waterway, the golf is magnificent on
numerous well groomed courses, accommodations are basic to elegant, the cuisine is varied and superb, and the
people are extremely friendly.

Alligators: Yes-We have gators. They only bother you when they are are hungry, but that is o.k. -
you are not allowed to feed them.
Airports: Hilton Head Island Airport connecting through Charlotte or Atlanta and the
nearby Savannah Jetport.
Arts & Entertainment: The Self Family Arts Center & Elizabeth Wallace Theatre.
Beaches: There are approximately 19 miles of white sandy beaches mostly along the sole of the
sneaker.
Churches: Most are available on the island or in nearby Bluffton and Beaufort.
Clubs: There are numerous clubs that fill most all interests.
Colleges & Universities: Technical College of the Low Country & University of South
Carolina at Hilton Head.
Golf Courses: There are 13 Public Courses on the Island, 15 Courses off the Island and 14 Private
Courses.
Government: Town of Hilton Head, Beaufort County, South Carolina.
Hospitals: Hilton Head Medical Center - 64 acute care beds & 15 skilled beds, plus numerous
clinics.
Libraries: The Hilton Head Public Library
Lodging: Accommodations include numerous motels, resort hotels, time shares, condos, homes and
apartments
Marinas: There are 9 marinas with total dry & wet slip capacity of 1,471 with depths at low
tide from 3' to 20'
Population: Approximately 35,000 year-round plus an estimated 2,000,000+
visitors/year.
Rental Cars: Major companies are available at both airports servicing this area.
Schools: Hilton Head Public, Elementary, Middle and High School plus Church & Private
Schools.
Shopping: There are 28 shopping villages and one enclosed mall on the island.
Tennis Facilities: There are 15 tennis facilities, seven of which are public, all with numerous
courts.
Traffic: An average of 19,000 vehicles a day cross the bridge onto Hilton Head, so drive
carefully.
